Rock Candy Distress Glitter

Hey, kids!!  How about another challenging challenge?  Not a fabric girl, not a glitter girl.  But not a whiner or a quitter, either, so here we go with Rock Candy Distress Glitter!  I actually do like a touch of glitter as an accent on some pieces and this super-favorite-stamp from way back did just that for me.  Dried Flower from one of Tim Holtz earliest collections.  I use it a lot with Distress Inks and a spritz of water for a colorful earthy effect.  It's so lacy, the glitter is just a pretty hint of sparkle on my tag.

Please forgive my lack of photos from the process.   It's just a wrinkle free distress background with Stormy Sky and Tea Dye Distress Inks.

It's subtle, so I've chosen a couple of close ups so you can see a bit of sparkle.  You can also see here silver micobeads sprinkled over some wet Ranger Matte Medium.  I saw something like this at the Prima Booth at CHA and thought it was charming.  My little bees are fussy cut and popped out from the same stamped image.
This movers and shapers mini flourish is another favorite and keeps me buying lots and lots of grungeboard.  Lots.  Cannot remember life before grungeboard, I'm sure it was awful.   Its painted with Antiqued Bronze Distress Paint and then I tapped a little Black Soot Distress Paint in areas, misted with water and tapped that out with a cloth for a tarnished look.

Truly, truly love these little corked vials with a message inside.  This one says "small" and on the other side "journey".  Maybe "small" is my one little word for this year.  I'm finding myself focusing and appreciating the small, the quiet, the still and the simple more and more and more.  Maybe that's the reason that more than the bling that glitter can bring, I'm attracted to just a bit of sparkle.  That's what this challenge has taught me and is one of the reasons I love this artistic journey we're all on together.

  18. I adore this soft and sweet color combination, Cheryl. The touches of Stormy Sky are a wonderful contrast. Your stamp choice was perfect for one who doesn't want a lot of sparkle, but just a pretty little hint. And the microbeads got my attention right away. So lovely!

  26. Ohhhh!! Yessss!! This is my usual flavor of coloring I just LOVE!! That hint of blue within the Distress Tea Dye (1 of my 2 very fave colors- the other is Distress Vintage Photo - that I probably use on just about EVERY project that has ink in it) actually makes the Tea Dye pop! Lovely!

  29. Cheryl, this is an amazing post and lovely tag! I enjoyed reading through about your creative journey. I love this stamp, too, and picked it up just yesterday to start on a piece for the challenge at CC3C. We'll see how that goes--I'm already on trial #3, and have to say I'm not getting the best photographic results--I have found diffrent papers give completely different effects using this technique, but none seem to photograph well with my phone! ( I don't have a "real" camera.) It seems we have the micro bead thing in common lately! Thank you for your amazing inspiration here!

  30. PS. Those tiny bees are the bees knees! Do you mind telling me what set they are from? Must have! Also, you are making my wish list grow with the mini flourish die! I forgot to mention what a wonderful transformation you have done on this lovely piece of grunge! Not only the color, but the texture! Did you use anything but the paints to achieve this?

    1. Hey there, Sara! The bee stamp is an old one from Stamper's Anonymous. It may be included in one of the Classics sets, I'm not sure, I'll look into that for you. If you PM me, I can get you some info on getting a wood mounted one, for sure. I only used Distress Paints on the flourish. When I say I tapped the Black Soot Distress Paint on, I mean I put a little on my craft sheet, touched with my finger and then just tapped onto the grunge board. I spritzed with a little water and then blotted with a cotton cloth. Love that little die!! Thanks for your questions. <3 cheryl@RMMemories.com

  42. At first glance I thought those bees were stamped, but then they looked 3 dimensional, so I went back to read that you fussy cut them! Wow, you have lots of patience to cut around their antennae!!! I like the TH die that looks like a honeycomb, the word brad in the flower and the little message in the bottle, along with your soft and pretty colours. Well done!

P.S. Thanks for the nice comment on my blog too!

    1. I actually didn't cut the antenna, Sharon. I stamped them on the tag, stamped again on a scrap, fussy cut and then popped them over the original image. They are tiny, tho!! ;-)
